Job Overview:

The Assistant Director of Patient Care is a Registered Professional Nurse with broad knowledge and skills who acts as clinical leader in the daily functioning of the unit and oversight of quality patient care delivery, in conjunction with or in the absence of the unit-based director of patient care.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of National League for Nursing accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • NJ RN License
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification
  • Three to Five years of nursing experience
  • Evidence of leadership ability
  • Physical stamina and ability to safely lift and move objects and people
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hire

Preferred:

  • Master s of Science in Nursing degree
  • Pediatric nursing experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • NJ RN License
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full Time
  • 40 hours/week

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the delivery of clinical services by managing clinical and support staff
  • Responsible and accountable for daily operations to achieve best practice and organizational objectives
  • Implementation of the nursing and hospital strategic plan and standards of care and practice in accordance with regulatory requirements within the unit
  • In conjunction with the director of patient care, develops, coordinates, integrates and oversees inter-disciplinary programs, monitors performance standards and existing practices, and development of new processes to improve organizational performance and staff competence
  • In conjunction with the director of patient care, s/he is responsible for demonstrating leadership, providing staff development, ensuring competence, and collaborating with Medical Staff and other leaders to deliver high quality, cost-effective care across the continuum,
  • Has strong knowledge of performance improvement and will manage/coordinate the activities of the Nursing Team to ensure patient care is provided in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements
  • Works collaboratively with nursing educators to enhance professional development of nursing staff
  • Evaluates staff performance and mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines direct and indirect reports as needed
  • Provides administrative and clinical oversight to ensure that all activity staffing, support services, interdisciplinary collaboration, resources and financial viability supports the goals of the organization
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to promote patient care and regulatory standards
  • Maintains a nursing unit in compliance with all regulatory agency mandates, including the regulations of NJ DOH all sites and The Joint Commission excludes LTC
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
  • The responsibilities are not limited to the above but expectations will be set up as required for the pediatric patient population that we serve
  • Fulfills all direct care responsibilities of an RN
  • Provides direction to all professional nursing personnel and ancillary personnel rendering patient care on the nursing unit
