Job Overview:

Serving as an integral member of the fundraising team, the Development Officer is responsible for the virtual and in-person engagement, cultivation and solicitation of donors and prospects, emphasizing managing donors who contribute $1,000 or more annually, and seeking support for hospital fundraising priorities both capital and programmatic. This position is charged with sustaining positive and mutually rewarding relations between the Foundation and its mid-level donors, partnering with the Foundation s development team and volunteers to determine the best strategies for effective cultivation and stewardship of donors to maximize donor impact.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor s Degree required
  • 2+ years development experience, preferably in a hospital, academic medical center or higher education
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to appropriately and comfortably manage sensitive and confidential donor information.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills.
  • Embodies self-drive with the ability to work independently with a collegial spirit
  • Ability to forge strong working relationships with others and a capacity for engaging confidence and trust among donors.
  • Ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced setting and navigate a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with the ability to recognize and identify opportunities to grow donor pipeline.
  • Proficiency in prioritizing and managing multiple, diverse, and ongoing projects.
  • Highly organized, detailed oriented with ability to work and deliver results on established goals.
  • Strong sense of humor, positive attitude, curious intellect, and drive to succeed.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required
  • Willingness to work in-person as required with remote flexibility for work-related travel and other needs as appropriate

Essential Functions:

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward annual to mid-level major donors and prospects.
  • Plan and execute engagement strategies to raise donors giving levels, expanding the major gift pipeline to RWJUH with referrals to appropriate gift officer when needed.
  • Manages a mid-level giving portfolio of at least 40 active donors with a goal of cycling through 125-150 donors/year.
  • Plans, executes, and simultaneously follows up on proven fundraising strategies with annual goals for cultivation activity, personal visits, and giving outcomes.
  • Effectively stewards new donor relationships to fill the donor pipeline.
  • Establishes and coordinates individualized cultivation and solicitation plans for donors.
  • Engage, communicate, and move potential donors appropriately and timely toward solicitation and closure of leadership gift.
  • Prepare donor profiles, presentations, proposals and gift agreements for assigned prospects and may be asked to support other gift officers with the same.
  • Coordinates special development campaigns and projects as assigned to convey donor impact.
  • Educates and manages emerging affinity groups to understand and implement fundraising strategy according to established protocols.
  • Other duties related to pipeline building and major gifts, as assigned.

Hospital & Development Initiatives

  • Become familiar with all hospital funding priorities to understand and outline opportunities for support that align with donor interests.

Database Management

  • Record and report on all solicitations and activity around cultivating and stewarding of major gift prospects in Raiser s Edge NXT database on a timely basis.
