Job Overview:

The Medical Assistant offers clinical and medical office support to Physicians, Residents and RNs for the Ophthalmology Department. This individual assists in patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Type 30 40 wpm
  • Possess proficient computer skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills required
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
  • Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment
  • Has a contagious and positive work ethic, inspires others, and models the behaviors of Genuine, Caring, and Friendly.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication that is clear, well-organized, and demonstrates an understanding of audience needs.
  • Through genuine and positive communication, makes each patient feel informed, understood, and special.
  • An effective team player who contributes valuable ideas and feedback and can be counted on to meet commitments.

Preferred:

  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Possess proficient computer skills
  • 2 years of relevant medical office experience is desirable

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or two years of experience working as a medical assistant.

Essential Functions:

  • They ensure all open lines of communication between patients, staff and physicians with demonstrated professionalism, efficiency and confidentiality
  • They act as a liaison between patients and providers to address and/or resolve problems, inquiries and concerns including test results and prescription renewals
  • They prepare patients/rooms for physical examinations; interview patients to obtain medical histories; explain treatment procedures; perform diagnostic testing and assist providers during procedures as needed
  • They perform all duties in a manner, which promotes team concepts and reflects RWJ Barnabas HealthCare Systems philosophy

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full Time
  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • 40 hours / weekly

Pay Range:

$ 22.42 minimum to $ 28.75 maximum Hourly Rate
