Job Overview:

The Mental Health Associate is a caregiver who assists patients with activities of daily living and provides nursing care to patients under the supervision of the registered professional nurse. Has knowledge of WRAP and has knowledge of providing appropriate group.

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately collects, labels and handles specimens.
  • Accurately takes and records vital signs (T,P.R, B/P) and weights. Reports vital signs out of normal range to RN.
  • Assists in identifying the need for crisis intervention.
  • Assists in patient/family teaching/reinforcement regarding illness, medication, treatments and coping techniques under the supervision of the RN.
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene and ADL activities.
  • Assists patients with recreational activities.
  • Assists the RN in evaluating progress toward goals, and making changes as necessary based on patient need.
  • Assists the RN with admission, discharge, and transfer responsibilities as assigned.
  • Completes Court run for legal process when necessary.
  • Contributes to the multidisciplinary treatment plan in discussing patient problems and treatment plan goals/interventions.
  • Correctly complies with all national patient safety goals and risk reduction procedures and associated policies as applicable to scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Fall Prevention Program and follows fall prevention protocols.
  • Documents patient response to interventions according to established policy and procedure.
  • Provides direct care to patients under the supervision of the RN in safe, therapeutic manner that preserves patient rights, respect and dignity.
  • Recognizes changes in patient behavior, such as increasing agitation and/or reality detachments and reports to the RN.
  • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.
  • Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records.
