Summary of Job Function:

The Orthopedic Spine Clinical Care Coordinator oversees the day-to-day care of patients with orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures. This includes coordinating efforts between surgeons, hospital administration, physical therapy and nursing staff while tracking the progress of the patients and identifying areas requiring improvement. Additionally, the role is responsible for patient and physician satisfaction and coordinating outreach efforts. The intent is to coordinate the entire patient experience pre-op through post discharge. Assists in supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members. Assures that all professional nurses and LPNs practice within their specific scope of practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act and Regulatory standards. Is aware of and assures that all unlicensed personnel practice within the scope of practice outlined in their specific job description. Responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.

Insure that Surg Serv-Ortho/Neuro T6E is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly dedicated Orthopedic Spine Clinical Coordinator/Assistant Clinical Director for Monmouth Medical Center.

Qualifications:

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
  • ASN or Nursing Diploma

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Related Field
  • National Certification
  • Five Years of Prior Healthcare Experience
  • Prior Orthopedic Experience

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift, 40 hours per week

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages risk taking, autonomy and change as appropriate
    • Promotes team building in department; assist to build a patient care delivery team.
    • Applies principles of change theory and critical thinking to daily operations.
    • Role models adaptation to change and critical thinking for staff.
    • Leads teams in the care of orthopedics and spine surgery.
    • Co-Chairs/participates actively in Patient Care Services and joint/spine committee

    • Promotes professional development and growth of the RN staff.
    • Gives feedback to staff on performance continuously.
    • Is a visible presence in department on all shifts
    • Oversees interview, selection and orientation process of new staff members.
    • Completes performance reviews in a timely manner.
    • Monitors staff turnover
    • Assures that staff needs are defined and met. 8.Ensures that all Human Resource policies are consistently, fairly adhered to. (ex. Time and Attendance)
  • Defines, develops, monitors and maintains an environment that promotes patient satisfaction
    • Unit plans/scores reflect efforts towards patient satisfaction.
    • Develops plans and assure implementation of all patient satisfaction initiatives with this patient population.
    • Rounds on all patients daily.
    • Assures that patient and family needs are defined and met.
    • Develops and manages standardized care plans in collaboration with unit staff, physicians and heath care team members including: pre-op, post-op and discharge orders
  • Supports the mission and vision of Monmouth Medical Center
    • Creates and manages an on-going quality improvement program that measures surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
    • Maintains community outreach program that targets patients in our primary and secondary service area by self or designee.
    • Assure that discharge information is accurate, complete for post op care and medication reconciliation.
    • Provide patient and family discharge education
  • Monitors and makes recommendations for the balance between fiscal and clinical needs.
    • Develops annual budgets in collaboration with Administrative Director and VP of Patient Care Services.
    • Develops staffing patterns reflective of needed hours of care for patients and appropriate staff mix.
    • Demonstrates a proactive approach to daily operations.
    • Assures staff scheduling meets requirements in accordance with Patient Care Service and Human Resource policy; schedule submitted in a timely manner.
    • Monitors supply and use of materials
