Job Overview:

Perform all necessary test protocols on patients in the lab, at bedside, in the Emergency Room, Recovery Room or in the Operating Room as deemed necessary by physician. Provide a preliminary report for all patients; Contact attending/referring physician if a critical finding is obtained. Performs ultrasound guided pseudo-aneurysm compression under the direct supervision of vascular surgeon.

Assists vascular surgeon in ultrasound guided pseudo-aneurysm injections. Maintains Vascular Laboratory standards as set by Inter-societal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). Clinical supervision of students attending UMDNJ and Long Island University Vascular Programs. Participation in QA evaluations. On-call availability. Other required responsibilities in order to maintain the standard of excellence of the Vascular Lab. Is knowledgeable of, adheres to and promotes safe practices (such as LeapFrog, Never Events, National Patient Safety Goals).

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of formal Ultrasound Training Program with previous experience in a Vascular Laboratory.
  • In such cases the candidate must sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire and pass the exam within the first year of hire or be terminated.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) status required. A technologist may be hired as registry eligible.

Essential Functions:

  • Checks physician s orders for specific test. Clarify ambiguous orders with referring physician. Evaluates indications for requested test per patient s history
  • Collects all prescriptions, referrals and co-pays of outpatients when necessary. Ensure timeliness of testing after outpatient registration.
  • Enters patient information onto Laboratory database. Adheres to departmental safety procedures during test
  • Evaluates patient s ability to adequately cooperate/tolerate specific test modality. Performs physical assessment pertinent to vascular disease.
  • Maintain equipment & exam rooms in neat & orderly manner. Inform supervisor of problem areas or equipment malfunctions.
  • Notify referring physician of critical findings. Discuss results with physician if requested.
  • Prepares preliminary report of results. Consults with colleagues or Medical Director if results are confusing or ambiguous.
